Joy Caughron

Joy Caughron serves as an academic instructor at Radford University through the HHMI Science Education Alliance-Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science (SEA-PHAGES) program. During Spring Semester 2019, she co-taught BIOL419-02, an in silico phage genomics course focused on Microbacterium foliorum host systems with 10 undergraduate students (2 sophomores, 3 juniors, 5 seniors) meeting 3 times weekly for 4.0 hours.

Her research specialization centers on computational genomics within microbial evolution, particularly bacteriophage analysis through bioinformatics pipelines. This aligns with SEA-PHAGES' mission to integrate genomic research into undergraduate education through phage discovery and annotation workflows.
