Botond Kostyák is a Hungarian-Transylvanian-born Professor of Double Bass at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna (since 2011), holding the academic rank of University Professor. He is principal bassist of the Orchestre National de Lyon since 1993. His career spans international solo performances, chamber music collaborations, and orchestral leadership.
Education:
- Studied with Prof. Ion Cheptea at the Bucharest Music Academy
- Earned a soloist diploma
Research & Performance: A leading double bass virtuoso known for interpretations of classical and contemporary repertoire. Composers Jozsef Hencz and Ede Terényi dedicated concertos to him. He co-founded the double bass quartet 'Mobile' (1986), producing acclaimed recordings across radio, TV, and CD platforms.
