Univ.-Prof. Dr. Birgit Neumann is Professor of English Literature/Anglophone Studies at the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf since 2012 and founding director of the Centre for Translation Studies since 2020. She previously held visiting professorships at Anglia Ruskin University, KU Leuven, Cornell University, and University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Her research focuses on post-monolingual Anglophone novels, intermediality, ekphrasis, and planetary memory in global literatures. She explores creoles and vernacular cosmopolitanism, translator visibility, and neo-baroque aesthetics in transcultural contexts, with emphasis on decolonization and digital age challenges.
Scientific service includes membership in Academia Europaea, editorial roles for Comparative History of Literatures in European Languages (CHLEL), and leadership in research networks like European Thematic Network ACUME. She has secured funding from DFG, DAAD, and Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung.
