Professor Bing Hu is Professor of Oral Biology at the Peninsula Dental School, University of Plymouth. He directs the Stem Cells & Regenerative Medicine Laboratory and previously served as Associate Head of School (Research). His education includes a BDS and MSc in Orthodontics from Capital Medical University, and dual PhDs in Orthodontics/Oral Biology (Capital Medical University) and Cellular & Molecular Biology (University of Strasbourg).
Research focuses on:
- Stem cell biology and regenerative medicine
- Tooth development and periodontal fibrosis
- Skin development and cancer pathogenesis
- Mitochondrial dysfunction in oral diseases
- Autophagy mechanisms in dental tissues
Publication analysis (2012-2023) reveals key themes: SARS-CoV-2 oral manifestations, Notch signaling in tissue maturation, stem cell regulation via autophagy/ciliary dynamics, and epithelial-mesenchymal interactions in development and cancer. Recent work explores viral-induced periodontal damage and mitochondrial metabolism.
