Bill Thomson is a Professor of Illustration at the Hartford Art School, University of Hartford. He creates artwork for advertising, books, and editorial clients nationwide, with recent focus on children's books including the wordless books CHALK, FOSSIL, and The Typewriter. His illustration work has received over 75 awards from prestigious organizations including the Society of Illustrators in New York and Los Angeles, Communication Arts, and Step Inside Design.
Professor Thomson's research explores visual storytelling through wordless narratives that encourage reader interpretation and engagement. His books often feature imaginative transformations of everyday objects and environments, blending realistic painting techniques with fantastical elements.
His teaching recognitions include the University of Hartford's Outstanding Teachers Award (2004) and Innovations in Teaching Award (2011). He maintains an active school visitation program where he discusses his creative process with students.
