William (Bill) Lord was a Professor of Economics at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) for 30 years until his passing on October 27, 2023. He specialized in public finance, household economics, and American economic history, integrating dynamic decision-making models into his research. His notable work included the book Household Dynamics: Economic Growth and Policy (2002), which explored household financial decisions and their macroeconomic implications. Bill taught pioneering courses like Economics 453 (Household Economics) and was developing a manuscript on the economic history of the American family.
He held degrees from Indiana University: B.A. (1976), M.A. (1980), and Ph.D. (1984). Beyond academia, he was an active campus member, serving on the UMBC Faculty Senate and mentoring Chesapeake Dorm students.
