Beth Vanlandingham

Beth Vanlandingham is the James F. Ellis Professor of History at Carson-Newman University, where she has taught since the early 1990s. She holds a B.A. and M.A. from Emory University and a Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Her teaching focuses on World and U.S. History within the Liberal Arts Core, alongside specialized courses in Chinese/Japanese history, the Civil Rights Movement, Native American history and culture, and women’s history.

Dr. Vanlandingham emphasizes student development through research, writing, and presentation skills in the Senior Seminar. Her academic engagement spans interdisciplinary topics, blending historical analysis with contemporary societal contexts.
