Beth Simon

Beth Simon is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Education Studies at the University of California, San Diego. She specializes in computing education and technology-enhanced teaching, focusing on curriculum development for K-12 educators and the integration of evidence-based practices like Peer Instruction. Previously, she served as Director of UCSD’s Center for Teaching Development and as Principal Teaching and Learning Specialist at Coursera, supporting MOOC development. Her work emphasizes equity in computer science education and teacher training.

Research interests include student conceptions of computing concepts, novice self-efficacy, and leveraging technology to enhance educational outcomes. She leads initiatives such as the CS+Elementary curriculum and the CS-LISTEN project, aimed at increasing equity in high school computing education. She also advises the UCSD Teaching + Learning Commons, fostering faculty adoption of innovative pedagogical tools.
