Dr. Beth S. Slomine is Assistant Vice President of Psychology at Kennedy Krieger Institute, Co-director of the Center for Brain Injury Recovery and Brain Injury Clinical Research Center, and Director of Rehabilitation Neuropsychology within the Department of Neuropsychology. She is also a Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. As a licensed psychologist and board-certified clinical neuropsychologist with subspecialty certification in pediatric neuropsychology, Dr. Slomine has established herself as a leading expert in pediatric brain injury research and rehabilitation.
Dr. Slomine earned her doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Florida in 1995, completed her psychology internship at the Brockton/West Roxbury Veteran's Administration Medical Center and Harvard University, and finished a post-doctoral fellowship in geriatric psychology and neuropsychology at the Philadelphia Geriatric Center.
Her primary research interests focus on neurobehavioral measurement, outcomes, and interventions following pediatric brain injury. Dr. Slomine has developed and validated innovative measurement tools, examined neuropsychological, neuropsychiatric, and functional outcomes following brain injury, and explored the efficacy of medical and psychological interventions for treatment. Her work spans multiple domains including cognitive rehabilitation, neurobehavioral assessment, outcome measurement, and therapeutic interventions for children with brain injuries. Recent publications show her expanding focus to disorders of consciousness and international mapping of care resources.
Dr. Slomine has authored over 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts, numerous book chapters, and co-edited a textbook entitled "Cognitive Rehabilitation for Pediatric Neurological Conditions." Her publication record demonstrates consistent scholarly output with increasing productivity in recent years, particularly in the areas of pediatric cardiac arrest outcomes and disorders of consciousness research.
