Beth Helmink, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.S., serves as Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgical Oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, specializing in peritoneal surface malignancies including peritoneal mesothelioma, appendiceal cancers, and peritoneal metastases from colorectal and ovarian cancers through cytoreductive surgery with or without HIPEC.
Her academic training pathway includes:
- Medical Degree and Ph.D. in Immunology from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis
- General Surgery Residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center
- Clinical and Research Fellowship in Complex General Surgical Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center
Dr. Helmink's research program investigates the anti-tumor immune response in peritoneal malignancies and examines microbial roles in cancer dissemination, creating interdisciplinary connections between surgical oncology, immunology, and microbiology to develop novel therapeutic approaches for peritoneal surface disease.
