Beth Eddy is a Lecturer in The Global School at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). She holds a BS from Northeast Louisiana University (1978), an MA from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro (1992), and a PhD from Princeton University (1998). Her research focuses on American pragmatism, American religious thought, and the ethical dimensions of biological sciences. She prioritizes improving student reading comprehension and writing skills through engaging discussions on controversial topics.
Her scholarly work includes publications on Jane Addams, bioethics, and the intersection of religion and philosophy. Notable works include The Rites of Identity (2003) and articles such as “Struggle or Mutual Aid” (2010). She received the Angus Kerr-Lawson Prize in 2017. Eddy actively participates in interdisciplinary forums, such as WPI’s discussions on CRISPR and genetically edited babies, emphasizing ethical considerations in scientific advancements.
