About
Bert Little is a Professor at the University of Louisville's School of Public Health and Information Sciences (SPHIS), with a joint appointment in the Department of Bioinformatics and Biostatistics. He also serves as a Senior Research Scientist in Cardiology at the Dallas VA Medical Center. His expertise spans applied mathematics, health outcomes research, and data mining, with a focus on clinical trials, database design, and population health.
Education: B.A. in Anthropology from Appalachian State University; M.A. in Primatology/Computer Science from Ball State University; Ph.D. in Physical Anthropology (Human Genetics) and Applied Mathematics from the University of Texas-Austin. Postdoctoral training in Statistics and Probability Theory at UT-Austin.
Research Interests: Human Genetics, Applied Mathematics, Health Data Analytics, Type 2 Diabetes, Interventional Cardiology, and Global Health. He has pioneered Big Data applications for public health, including studies on diabetes in genetic isolates in Mexico and underserved populations in Kentucky.
Recent Projects: Multi-center cardiology clinical trials, data warehouse development for government health systems, and research on renal failure and childhood obesity in Mexico. His work integrates statistical methods with clinical and population health challenges.
Awards: FAAAS, FRAI, FRSM, FRSPH; NIH Junior Investigator Award (1985); IEEE Top 10 Data Mining Case Studies (2010); multiple editorial roles at PLoS One and Frontiers journals.
Advising & Grants: Led multi-million dollar projects for governmental and pharmaceutical entities. Advised on drug safety in pregnancy, substance abuse programs, and health policy initiatives. Active in VA Medical Center research collaborations.
