Bernd Kortmann

Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Bernd Kortmann is a Full Professor of English Language and Linguistics at the University of Freiburg, Germany. His research focuses on the comparative grammar of non-standard English varieties from a typological perspective, with significant contributions to morphosyntactic variation, dialectology, and areal linguistics.

• Co-editor of Topics in English Linguistics and Dialects of English series
• Editor of English Language and Linguistics journal
• Developed the open-access Electronic World Atlas of Varieties of English (eWAVE)

His recent work includes the FREDDIE project, a multimedia platform for dialect research, and collaborations on morphosyntactic complexity in World Englishes.
