Dr. Benoit-Antoine Bacon is the 17th President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of British Columbia (UBC) and holds a Professorship in the Department of Psychology within the Faculty of Arts. He earned his PhD in neuropsychology from the University of Montreal and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Glasgow, Scotland.
His research in cognitive neuroscience explores the links between brain activity and perception in visual, auditory, and vestibular systems, with a focus on multisensory integration. He also advocates nationally for open conversations about mental health and substance use, reflecting his commitment to public engagement and equity in academia.
Dr. Bacon has served on the Board of Directors of Universities Canada since 2020. His leadership roles prior to UBC included President and Vice-Chancellor at Carleton University, Provost at Queen’s University, and Provost at Concordia University, where he was recognized as a Sustainability Champion. His scientific accolades include the Transformational Leader Inspiration Award and Honorary Presidency of the Canadian Psychological Association.
