Benjamin T. Sharpe is a Senior Lecturer in Cognitive Psychology and Director of the Human Attention Laboratory (HAL) at the University of Chichester’s Institute of Psychology, Business, and Human Sciences. He also coordinates the BSc Psychology of Esports and BSc Criminology and Forensic Psychology programmes. His research focuses on sustained attention, neuromodulation, and applications in diverse populations like esports professionals and individuals with dementia. He leads HAL and collaborates with labs such as the Cognitive Ageing and Dementia Research Lab and Functional Behavioural Science Lab.
Dr. Sharpe’s academic roles include Programme Coordinator for two degree programmes, Professional Learning & Quality Assurance Officer for The Human Factor, and Staff CPD Coordinator. He holds membership in the University’s Academic Board and Research & Innovation Committee. His PhD research, conducted at the University of Chichester with collaborations at King’s College London, addressed lifeguard detection performance, influencing training manuals.
Research interests span cognitive psychology, esports psychology, and neuromodulation techniques. Recent articles explore topics like dementia care technology, jury decision-making, and esports performance interventions. He actively supervises PhD students in cognition, vigilance, and esports-related topics. Notable collaborations include projects with the Royal Life Saving Society and Royal National Lifeboat Institute.
