About
Benjamin Sussman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Ottawa and a Senior Research Leader at the National Research Council of Canada (NRC). He leads the Quantum Technology Program (40-person team) and the Ultrafast Quantum Photonics Team at the NRC, advancing quantum sensing, communications, and computing. His research focuses on ultrafast quantum control, nonlinear optics, and quantum light-matter interactions.
Education:
- PhD in Physics, Queen’s University, Kingston
- Research Fellowship at Worcester College, University of Oxford
Research Interests: Control of quantum systems, optical pulse shaping, quantum memories, slow-light phenomena, diamond phononics, and room-temperature quantum processing. His work bridges quantum optics with ultrafast science, with applications in molecular quantum processing and secure communication protocols.
Labs/Teams: Quantum Photonics Program (NRC), Ultrafast Quantum Photonics Team (NRC), and the Joint Center for Extreme Photonics (JCEP).
