Benjamin Schmidt

Benjamin Schmidt serves as head of department and lighting designer at the Theater Academy in the Prinzregententheater since 2001, and as a guest lecturer at the Munich University of Music and Art Academy and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

His educational background includes:

• Industrial Engineering degree
• Lighting Designer training at the August Everding Theater Academy

Professional interests focus on theater lighting design across drama, opera, dance, and musicals. He has collaborated with prominent directors such as Anna Viebrock, Gil Mehmert, Jörg Hube, and Jochen Schölch, creating lighting for diverse theatrical genres from classical productions to contemporary dance theater.

Prior roles encompass lighting technician at the Bavarian State Theater, freelance lighting design work, and lighting master responsibilities at the German National Theater in Weimar where he expanded into dance theater productions.
