About
Benjamin Gearey is Lecturer in Environmental Archaeology at University College Cork. His research examines human-environment interactions through palaeoecological analysis of wetland landscapes, particularly peatlands.
Research combines geoarchaeology with policy applications for heritage conservation. Projects include Lost Frontiers (submerged landscapes) and WetFutures (ecosystem services). The Pallasboy Project recreates prehistoric woodcraft through experimental archaeology.
Publications address Neolithic landscape perception, climate change impacts, and conservation policy. Gearey authored 'Modelling Archaeology and Environments in a Wetland Landscape' and contributed to IUCN's peatland heritage management guidelines.
