Benjamin Chi is a Professor at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Vice Chair for Research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. He also serves as Interim Director of the Center for Women’s Health Research and is a member of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. His work focuses on HIV, cervical cancer, implementation science, and global women’s health, with extensive experience in southern Africa.
- Education: MD and MSc degrees.
Dr. Chi’s research explores the intersection of HIV, women’s health, and clinical trials, particularly in resource-limited settings. He has led large-scale cervical cancer screening programs in Zambia, published in implementation science and virology, and contributed to global maternal and child health guidelines via the World Health Organization.
Leadership & Training Programs include directing the UNC-UNZA-Wits Partnership for HIV and Women’s Reproductive Health, leading the Fogarty Global Health Fellowship consortium (supporting 15-20 trainees annually), and overseeing research training tracks for women’s cancers. He previously coordinated Zambian research initiatives for 12 years.
