Austin Oberlin, MD, is a Clinical Associate in Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences at Yale School of Medicine and affiliated faculty at the Yale Institute for Global Health. He holds a BA in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the College of Wooster, an MD from Virginia Commonwealth University, and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Columbia University. Currently, he is pursuing a Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship at Yale.
Dr. Oberlin’s research focuses on global health disparities, maternal mortality, and healthcare system improvements in sub-Saharan Africa. His work includes projects on HPV self-testing in HIV-positive women, malaria prevention in pregnancy, and vector-borne diseases’ impact on perinatal health. He has received prestigious awards, including the Fogarty Global Health Fellowship (NIH) and Queenan Global Health Scholarship, supporting his efforts in Zambia to expand obstetric education.
His publications span surgical interventions for placenta accreta, maternal morbidity analysis across global settings, and cervical cancer screening strategies. Dr. Oberlin’s clinical expertise includes managing high-risk pregnancies and postpartum complications. He aims to establish a full-time presence in sub-Saharan Africa to further strengthen healthcare systems.
