Benedetta Serapioni is a PhD researcher at the Leibniz Institute of European History (Mainz, Germany). She holds an MA in Middle Eastern Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), London (2012), and since August 2013 has been part of a five-person project titled "Knowledge of the World - Heritage of Mankind: The History of UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage", funded by the Leibniz Competition of the Leibniz Association.
- Research Focus: Political dimensions of UNESCO World Heritage, state-civil society governance, and contested cultural discourses (1971-1982), using the Old City of Jerusalem as a case study.
- Current Work: Analyzes UNESCO's universal heritage paradigm and its intersection with national claims over urban heritage.
