Ben Stagl is a Lecturer at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), specializing in the intersection of art, design, and fabrication. He is co-owner of ChiLab Studio and has over two decades of experience creating works that bridge sculpture, architecture, and interior design. His projects range from intimate objects to civic-scale installations, blending classical techniques with advanced digital practices.
Stagl’s research interests focus on materiality, form, and the cultural/environmental impact of design. His work has been featured in Interior Design Magazine, NewCity Magazine, and The New York Times. Notable awards include the 2016 Chicago DCASE Grant and a Best in Show at Modern Luxury Magazine.
In teaching, he emphasizes iterative design processes and critical thinking, guiding students in SAIC’s Designed Objects program. His collaborations include projects for Uber, Knoll, and the Museum of Science and Industry.
