Basiyr D. Rodney serves as Associate Professor of Educational Technology and Chair of the Department of Teacher Education at Webster University's School of Education in St. Louis, Missouri. He prepares K-12 teachers and learning design professionals committed to democratic and socially just learning approaches powered by innovation and technology. His work spans teaching, research, and leadership within educational technology and teacher preparation.
Dr. Rodney's research interests focus on emerging technologies, new learning and design approaches, and collaborative meaningful learning with technology. He has developed software applications for teacher evaluations and learning games for Teacher Candidates. His expertise extends to the history of the Caribbean, American History, African Slavery in the Atlantic World, International Politics, and American Education history and policy. He teaches courses in technology education, social foundations, and innovative practices, emphasizing democratic learning environments and digital equity.
His publications reveal a strong focus on educational technology integration, particularly examining how internet-connected technologies transform learning environments. Recent work explores the Internet of Things in education, playful robotics in early childhood settings, and social media applications for teacher development. His research consistently addresses how technology can support democratic, socially just learning approaches while enhancing cognitive development and meaningful learning experiences across diverse educational contexts.
Dr. Rodney holds degrees in History and Government from the University of the West Indies at Mona Jamaica, and degrees in Education Technology and Curriculum from Florida Atlantic University. He has taught teachers in multiple countries across the K-12 education spectrum and continues to write and comment on historical and educational topics.
He actively participates in educational leadership through board memberships with The Soulard School, Connected Learning, The Alliance for Interracial Dignity in Webster Groves Missouri, and the Webster Center for Creativity and Innovation in Geneva. Additionally, he serves as President of the Pan African Ahmadiyya Muslim Association USA, demonstrating his commitment to community engagement beyond academia.
