Basil Omar

Dr Basil Omar is an Associate Professor in Policy and Practice in Strategy and Innovation at the Bristol Business School, University of the West of England (UWE), where he joined in 2018 as a Senior Lecturer. He serves as Programme Leader for the full-time MBA and Module Leader for the Management Consulting elective, engaging students in real-world corporate problem-solving.

• Co-Investigator on the EPSRC-funded project Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Capability (~£1.7m)
• Academic lead for a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between UWE and a SaaS company
• External Examiner for the University of Leicester's MBA Programme

His research focuses on strategy, innovation, and entrepreneurship, particularly in technology-driven sectors and microbiome-based therapeutics. He has contributed to the UK's National Microbiome Roadmap and collaborated with industry leaders like Boots and Lattice Group. With over 30 years of experience spanning academia, management consultancy (PwC, Grant Thornton), and corporate roles (Philips, Sharp), he bridges technical and business domains.

He co-founded CHAIN Biotechnology Ltd., a biotech startup developing oral microbiome therapies, where he acts as Strategic Advisor. His expertise includes securing research grants, mentoring startups, and translating scientific innovations into commercial applications.
