Basema Hamarneh

Basema Hamarneh is a Professor at the University of Vienna's Department of Classical Archaeology. She serves as Vice-Director of Studies for the Historical and Cultural Studies Directorate and leads the Doctoral Studies program. Her teaching focuses on Late Antique and Early Christian archaeology, including specialized courses on topics like 'Fantastic beasts, myth and other curiosities in Late Antiquity' and 'Bishops, monks and ecclesiastics: religious authorities in Late Antiquity'.

Recent courses include 'Death, Burial and Commemoration in Late Antiquity,' 'Archaeological fieldwork principles,' and fieldwork programs in Jordan. Her administrative roles include heading the Department of Classical Archaeology.
