Barry Lennox is Professor of Applied Control at the University of Manchester and Research Director of the Dalton Cumbrian Facility. A Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, he holds the EPSRC Chair in Nuclear Decommissioning and has over 30 PhD graduates.
His research develops robotic systems for nuclear decommissioning, pipeline monitoring using acoustic reflectometry, and multivariate process control. Current projects include swarm robotics for hazardous environment inspection, underwater micro-robots, and radiation-tolerant systems. He co-founded Perceptive Engineering and developed commercial pipeline monitoring systems deployed globally.
Professor Lennox leads the Control Systems Centre and directs projects under the RAIN (Robotics and AI for Nuclear) initiative. His team collaborates with nuclear facilities worldwide to develop robotic solutions for decommissioning challenges.
