Dr Barnabas Balint is a Visiting Research Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Studies, University College London (UCL), from June 2025 to February 2026. His research focuses on Holocaust history, particularly the role of the Hungarian Zionist Association (MCSz) in resistance and rescue operations during World War II.
Education:
- DPhil in History, Magdalen College, University of Oxford
- BA in History, University of Exeter (2019), awarded the Jean Henderson Prize for top academic performance in European History
His work redefines resistance during the Holocaust through pre-existing personal solidarities rather than political ideologies, using archives across Europe, Israel, and the United States. He has published in journals such as Holocaust and Genocide Studies and The Journal of Holocaust Research, and co-edited special issues on age/gender dynamics in 20th-century Europe and transnational approaches to Holocaust studies.
