Barbara Rhyneer is the University Orchestra Director at Northern Michigan University (NMU), where she also teaches string pedagogy, conducting, applied string lessons, and Music in Society. She holds a Doctorate of Arts in orchestral conducting and violin performance from Ball State University, a Master of Music from Bowling Green State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Loyola Marymount University.

- Guest violinist with Keweenaw Symphony Orchestra, Pine Mountain Music Festival Orchestra, Beverly Hills Symphony, and others
- Former conductor of Eastern Central Indiana Youth Orchestra (1995–1997) and Upper Peninsula Youth Orchestra (1999–2014)
- Active adjudicator for the Michigan Solo and Ensemble Festival and member of American String Teachers Association (ASTA) and College Orchestra Directors Association (CODA)
Dr. Rhyneer integrates classical and non-classical music genres, performing in Celtic, jazz, rock, and musical theater contexts. She played the role of 'Rosie' in the Forest Roberts Theatre's 2019 production of Mamma Mia and is currently a member of the American Irish folk ensemble The Knockabouts.
