Barbara Chamberlin is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Brighton's School of Humanities and Social Science, specializing in Comics Studies, Horror, and Visual Narratives. She co-founded the Comics Research Excellence Group and co-curates the Graphic Brighton symposium, focusing on interdisciplinary comics scholarship. Her research explores intersections of folklore, landscape, and creative practice, particularly through expanded comics and walking methodologies.
Education: PhD in 'Haunted Spaces: Visualising the Witch in Expanded Comics' (2019–2024, University of the Arts London), MA in Media-Assisted Language Teaching and TESOL (2002, University of Brighton), BA Hons English Literature (Anglia Ruskin University).
Research interests include witch narratives, folk horror, and the transformative power of storytelling in creative writing and comics. She has published widely on visual cultures and supervises doctoral candidates in interdisciplinary comics research and creative practice.
