Ban Majeed

Ban Majeed is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biostatistics, Data Science, & Epidemiology at the School of Public Health, Augusta University. He also holds a joint appointment in the Department of Biobehavioral Nursing at the College of Nursing. His academic work spans epidemiology, biostatistics, and public health research with a focus on tobacco use behaviors and preventive care.

His research interests include:

• Use and perceptions of e-cigarettes, hookah, and cigars
• Flavor appeal and its influence on tobacco initiation
• Biological harm spectrum of tobacco products
• Epidemiological study designs and survey methodology

His recent publications center on behavioral risk factors, cancer survivorship, health inequities, and the public health impact of tobacco and nicotine products. The articles reflect a strong emphasis on data from national surveys like BRFSS and clinical outcomes during the pandemic. Themes include health disparities, preventive behavior adoption, and susceptibility to alternative tobacco products.

Notable recognition includes being awarded among the top five papers of the year by the American Journal of Preventive Medicine in 2018.

He is actively involved in academic service, serving on committees including the MS Epidemiology Committee, Medical College of Georgia Admissions Interview Team, and the MCG Women's Career Development Symposium Planning Committee. He mentors students and serves as a reviewer for SRNT and scientific journals. He teaches core courses such as Introduction to Epidemiology and Foundations of Medicine.
