Assistant Professor Bailey Kacsmar leads the Practical Usable Privacy and Security (PUPS) Lab at the University of Alberta as an Amii Fellow. Researches human-centered privacy technologies for data analysis and AI systems.
Research integrates technical privacy solutions with user perception studies, focusing on:
- Privacy-preserving machine learning
- Secure multiparty computation
- Usability of cryptographic systems
- Informed consent mechanisms
Teaches graduate courses in cryptography for digital privacy and machine learning privacy. Supervises multiple graduate students and research assistants in the PUPS Lab. Recent publications appear in USENIX Security and ACM SIGSAC conferences.
Awarded 2025 University of Alberta Outstanding Mentorship honor for undergraduate research guidance.
