Badih Assaf

Badih Assaf is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Notre Dame, affiliated with the College of Science. His research focuses on synthesizing and characterizing topological and quantum materials with reduced dimensions, particularly exploring their electronic and magnetic properties through advanced spectroscopic techniques.

Education: Ph.D. and M.S. in Physics from Northeastern University (2014, 2011), B.S. in Physics from the American University of Beirut (2009).

Research Interests: Topological quantum matter, quantum materials, magnetism, and the interplay between electronic structure and material properties. His group investigates phenomena such as topological phase transitions, Berry curvature effects, and spin-dependent transport in heterostructures and thin films.

Labs/Teams: Leads the Topological Quantum Matter Group, focusing on epitaxial growth, magnetooptical spectroscopy, and quantum transport measurements to uncover novel material behaviors.
