BANHORO Yacouba is an Associate Professor in Contemporary History at the Department of History and Archaeology, Université Joseph Ki-Zerbo (Burkina Faso), affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities. He serves as Director of the Africa Multiple Excellence Pole and previously led the Department of History and Archaeology (2017-2019). His expertise spans African health history, global health governance, political history, and international relations.
Education includes a PhD in African History (2002-2005, University of Hamburg, Germany), DEA in African History (2000, Université de Ouagadougou), and MA in History (1991, Université de Ouagadougou). He held a teaching position at secondary level from 1992-2002 before transitioning to academia.
Research focuses on colonial-era health systems, HIV/AIDS policy evolution, and the intersection of health governance with socio-political structures. His work analyzes disease narratives in African literature and the impact of global health initiatives on local contexts. Recipient of the Friedrick Ebert Foundation Fellowship (2002-2005) and Coimbra Group EU Fellowship (2010).
