B.P.S. Murthi is a Professor of Management at the Naveen Jindal School of Management, University of Texas at Dallas. He holds a Ph.D. in Marketing from Carnegie-Mellon University (1993), an MBA from Indian Institute of Management (1981), and a B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (1979). His research focuses on consumer evaluation behavior, choice models, marketing efficiency, and long-term equilibrium effects in markets.
He has served as a visiting faculty at prestigious institutions including Chonnam University (2008–2018), Washington University in St. Louis (2006), and INSEAD (2005). His notable contributions include organizing the UTD Frontiers of Research in Marketing Science conference and serving as President of the e-Business section of INFORMS. He has been recognized with awards including the Mellon Doctoral Fellowship and the National Talent Search Scholarship (India).
His research spans strategic group analysis in industries, risk-adjusted revenue measurement in credit cards, and the impact of digital piracy on music sales. He has advised over 20 doctoral students and contributed to journals like Marketing Science and the European Journal of Operational Research.
