Ayça Atabey

Ayça Atabey is a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at the University of Edinburgh, where she co-leads the Grasping Data Project focusing on data protection and ethics. Her interdisciplinary work bridges law, education, and AI, with a specialization in AI-EdTech and children’s rights. She holds a PhD from the University of Edinburgh, supported by a Turing Institute award, and has collaborated with the Council of Europe, LSE, 5Rights Foundation, and UN Women.

Her research addresses legal frameworks for AI governance, ethical data practices in education technology, and child-centered AI design. She has advised NGOs and international organizations on AI regulation and gender equality, including roles at UN Women’s Europe & Central Asia office. Prior roles include teaching at Bilgi University Law School and consultancy on migration and AI ethics.
