Axelle Amon

Axelle Amon is a Lecturer at the University of Rennes, affiliated with the Institute of Physics of Rennes (IPR) within the Faculty of Science. Her research spans granular physics, complex systems, and nonlinear dynamics, with a focus on mechanical response of granular media and plasticity phenomena in amorphous materials.

Her primary research interests include modeling complex dynamics and self-organization in various systems through experimental, theoretical, and numerical approaches. Amon has developed innovative measurement techniques using diffusing wave spectroscopy to study micro-deformations in granular materials with exceptional precision (up to 10^-5 strain resolution). Her work covers avalanche precursors, plasticity in amorphous materials, mechanical noise fluidization of granular media, deformation localization, wave propagation in disordered media, and droplet traffic in microfluidic circuits.

Analysis of her recent publications reveals a strong focus on connecting laboratory-scale experiments with natural phenomena, particularly in geophysics. Her 2025 publication in Geophysical Research Letters demonstrates how laboratory earthquake models can inform our understanding of seismic aftershocks through deformation-based rather than time-based analysis. She also co-authored a comprehensive book on nonlinear dynamics and chaos for master's and doctoral students.
