Avram Alexandru (1956–2021) was a renowned Professor of Greek History at Le Mans Université (2002–2020) and former Professor at the University of Bucharest's Faculty of History (1998–2002). He held visiting roles at institutions including the École Pratique des Hautes-Études (Paris) and the American School of Classical Studies at Athens. His research focused on Greek epigraphy, ancient history, and the archaeology of the Black Sea region, particularly Histria. A Senior Researcher at the Vasile Pârvan Institute of Archaeology, he supervised 10 PhDs and guided 11 ongoing doctoral projects. Honors include the prestigious Gustave Mendel and Vasile Pârvan Prizes.
Education: PhD in History (1992) from the Romanian Academy's Institute of Archaeology, with a thesis on Thasian Amphora Stamps from Histria; MA (1980) in History from the University of Bucharest.
