Avishka Wickramarachchi is a Research Fellow at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), affiliated with the School of Mechanical, Medical and Process Engineering and the Centre for Biomedical Technologies. He holds a BEng (Honours) from Monash University (2021) and is completing his PhD there (expected 2025).
His research focuses on developing medical devices for cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, particularly in mechanical circulatory support (MCS) systems such as ECMO and LVADs. Key areas include computational fluid dynamics modeling, in-vitro simulator evaluations, and ex-vivo hemocompatibility studies.
Recent work includes optimizing ECMO cannula designs, studying blood flow dynamics in MCS devices, and assessing thrombosis risks. He has published widely in journals like Perfusion, Computers in Biology and Medicine, and Physics of Fluids, with a focus on device performance and clinical applications.
