Augustine S. Chavez, M.D., is an Assistant Professor and Consultant in Family Medicine at Mayo Clinic Arizona. He serves as Associate Chair of Practice in the Department of Family Medicine, Co-director of the Student Community Clinic, and Population Health Domain Leader in the Science of Health Care Delivery. Board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, his clinical focus is comprehensive team-based care with research interests in population health, health equity, and social determinants of health.
Chavez completed residency training at University of New Mexico School of Medicine where he was Chief Resident. His educational background includes an M.D. from University of New Mexico and B.A. in Biology and History (summa cum laude) from the same institution. He leads initiatives addressing healthcare disparities and mentors premedical students through various programs.
His research examines menopausal symptom disparities, telehealth implementation, rare clinical presentations, and Spanish-language medical communication. Recent publications demonstrate commitment to improving care for underserved populations through innovative healthcare delivery models.
