Ashley Hall is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Iowa. Her research focuses on Black American rhetorical cultures, particularly examining how Black speech communities use discourse to envision worlds beyond antiblack violence. She specializes in Black rhetorical traditions, cultural politics, and media analysis across historical periods. Current interests include Black women’s public discourse, ratchetness, and worldmaking through figures like Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion.
Her interdisciplinary work bridges rhetoric, race studies, and media studies to explore agency, subjectivity, and power in marginalized communities.
