Ashley Gumbrell

Ashley Gumbrell is a Lecturer in Football Development and Coaching at St Mary's University, where he serves as Programme Lead for the Performance Football Coaching MSc. He joined the institution in December 2022. Previously, he held lecturing roles at University Campus Football Business and worked with professional clubs like Brighton and Hove Albion, Fulham FC, and grassroots organizations. His career spans over 15 years in coaching, including nine years as a coach educator for The Football Association (The FA), focusing on mentorship and course delivery across Surrey and South London.

• Education: BSc in Sport Psychology and Coaching Sciences, MSc in Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology (2013).

His research interests center on coach education and development, particularly communication strategies in training and matchday scenarios. Ashley contributes to teaching across multiple programs, including the BSc Sports Psychology degree, reflecting his academic passion for the intersection of psychology and coaching. He aims to pursue a PhD in the future to further explore these areas.
