Ash Smolar

Ash Smolar is an artist, activist, filmmaker, architect, editor of a feminist magazine and teacher currently instructing animation at erg. Their academic background includes a master's degree in experimental cinema from the San Francisco Art Institute.

Smolar's research and creative work focuses on the intersection of gender issues, the politics of space, and transmission. With training in both animation and video, they have also pursued studies in architecture, creating a unique interdisciplinary approach to their work.

Their creative output includes approximately ten short films and animated films, plus two feature-length documentaries. Their most recent documentary, Out Of the Picture, examines the invisibility of women in architecture, continuing their exploration of gender dynamics within spatial contexts.

As an educator at erg, Smolar brings their multifaceted background in art, architecture, and feminist theory to their teaching practice, particularly in the field of animation.
