Armita Davarpanah

Armita Davarpanah is an Assistant Professor in the Environmental and Health Sciences Department at Spelman College since 2015. She holds degrees in Chemistry (B.S.), Geochemistry (M.S.), and GIScience (Ph.D.) from Georgia State University and Azad University, Iran. Her work bridges geoscience, GIScience, and geoinformatics with a focus on geospatial and semantic modeling.

Her research explores spatial-temporal analyses of Earth processes, natural hazards, climate change impacts on resources, and environmental justice. She has taught geoscience, GIScience, and environmental courses at Spelman College, Morehouse College, Emory University, and Georgia State University since 2014.

Current projects include semantic modeling of the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on socioeconomic status with a focus on environmental justice, UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), natural hazards like floods and monsoons, and rare earth element mineral systems. She emphasizes integrating new technologies into teaching and combining theory with fieldwork.
