About
Dr. Arjun Muralidharan is a Research Fellow and Group Leader of the Neurobiology of Chronic Pain Research Lab at the University of Sydney's School of Life and Environmental Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Neuropharmacology from the University of Queensland (2013) and completed postdoctoral training at the Centre for Integrated Preclinical Drug Development (UQ) and McGill University (Canada). His research focuses on molecular mechanisms linking chronic pain and aging, with a focus on stem-cell therapies for pain relief. He has secured over $2 million in research funding, including an NHMRC Ideas Grant.
- Affiliations: Charles Perkins Centre, Sydney School of Life and Environmental Sciences (SOLES)
- Key Projects: Telomere-mediated spinal senescence in male chronic pain, prostate cancer-induced bone pain
Research interests include pain pharmacogenetics, sex-dependent pain mechanisms, and translational pain therapies. His work has been recognized through awards like the Ronald Melzack Fellowship (2015) and Australian Pain Society 2019 Rising Star Award. Current grants include studies on cellular senescence pathways and cancer pain.
Lab affiliations include the Neely Lab, where interdisciplinary approaches are applied to pain biology. He has published extensively in journals like Journal of Clinical Investigation and Discover Oncology, with a focus on preclinical and clinical pain mechanisms.
