Dr. Ariel C. Armony is the incoming Provost and Executive Vice President of Babson College, joining from the University of Pittsburgh where he served as Vice Chancellor for Global Affairs and Director of the University Center for International Studies. He brings extensive experience in global academic leadership, having advanced international partnerships, research initiatives, and diversity programs.
His research focuses on democratization, civil society, human rights, and the complex geopolitical relationship between China and Latin America. He is also recognized for his book Emerging Global Cities: Origin, Structure, and Significance, which analyzes the rise of cities like Miami, Dubai, and Singapore as global hubs.
Previously, Armony held roles as Vice Provost for Global Affairs and Senior Director for International Programs at the University of Pittsburgh, and led the University of Miami’s Institute for Advanced Study of the Americas. He is a recipient of prestigious fellowships, including Fulbright, Rockefeller Foundation, and Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.
Armony, an immigrant from Argentina, emphasizes international advocacy and globalization in his academic work. He is married to Mirna Kolbowski, a financial professional in higher education and non-profits, and is an avid hiker with a passion for global cultural engagement.
