Dean G. McCurdy

Dean G. McCurdy serves as the 10th President of Colby-Sawyer College, a position he assumed in June 2025. He also holds the title of Professor of Arts and Sciences and the Volanakis Family Presidential Chair.

Dr. McCurdy possesses extensive leadership experience in higher education administration, having previously served as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Ivy Tech Community College, chancellor of its Kokomo campus, and associate vice president for instruction at Kalamazoo Valley Community College. His academic foundation is in biology, with prior faculty positions including the A. Merton Chickering Professor of Biology at Albion College where he chaired the biology department and directed the honors program.

As an ecologist, Dr. McCurdy's research focuses on coastal and inland ecosystems, with publications examining fish, crustaceans, shorebirds, parasites, and turtles across Maine, Nova Scotia, and Suriname, South America. His scholarly work demonstrates a consistent connection between academic research and practical community applications.

Dr. McCurdy earned his bachelor's degree with honors in biology from Acadia University and completed his doctoral degree in biology from Carleton University, followed by a post-doctoral fellowship with the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.
