Prof. Arend Bos is a Professor in Pediatrics and Neonatology at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Medical Sciences, leading the Neonatology division at the Beatrix Children’s Hospital (UMCG). His research focuses on neonatal brain function and development, particularly in high-risk infants requiring NICU care. He investigates risk factors (e.g., prematurity, oxygen deficits) and non-invasive monitoring tools (e.g., general movements analysis, aEEG, NIRS) to improve long-term outcomes. He co-developed methods assessing infant movements and advocates music therapy for NICU infants. He is a member of the General Movements Trust and ambassador for Make a Memory since 2011.
Research interests include maternal/fetal risk factors, diagnostic innovations, and long-term follow-up studies up to adolescence. He has supervised multiple PhD students and contributed to 359+ publications. Awards include the SPR MD PhD Award. His work addresses neurodevelopmental disorders, environmental pollutants, and surgical/neonatal complications.
