Dr. Archie G Iv Birkner is an Associate Professor of Music and Assistant Director of Bands at the University of Florida. He leads University Concert Bands, directs the Wind Symphony and New Music Ensemble, and supports the Gator Marching Band. His roles include teaching graduate/undergraduate courses in conducting, literature, and special projects within the School of Music.
Education: PhD in Music Education/Instrumental Conducting, Master of Music in Percussion Performance, and Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Florida. Professional memberships include World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, CBDNA, NAfME, and others. He has conducted honor bands/orchestras across the US, Europe, and South America.
Prior experience includes Texas public school band teaching. Notable achievements include founding the 2018 Vienna Summer Music Festival's Conducting Institute. He is an honorary member of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma.
