April Claggett

April Claggett is a Professor of Foundations at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Savannah, GA (2022–present). She holds an M.F.A. in fine art from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and an M.A. in art history from Syracuse University. Prior roles include Lecturer at Anna Maria College, Online Instructor at Franklin Pierce University, and Part-Time Faculty at the New Hampshire Institute of Art.

Her research spans contemporary art practices, public installations, environmental art, and visual literacy. Key themes include material exploration, community-driven art projects, and the intersection of nature and artistic expression. Claggett’s work often addresses urban regeneration, ecological themes, and historical narratives through murals, exhibitions, and interdisciplinary collaborations.

Notable exhibitions include A Few of My Favorite Things (Keene, NH), Entanglements (postponed to 2022), and April Claggett: Light Matters (Dublin, NH). Her articles explore topics like light installations, color theory, and environmental art in venues such as Art New England, What Women Create Magazine, and Surface Magazine.

Award highlights include the NH State Council on the Arts Artist Entrepreneurial Grant (twice), the National Endowment for the Arts Our Town Award, and recognition in the Washington Area Music Awards. Claggett has also led workshops on branding for rural development and visual literacy in South Africa.

Her teaching focuses on foundational art practices, and she has contributed to public art initiatives such as the Ghost Army Exhibition and the Citizens’ Institute of Rural Design. Claggett’s work frequently bridges art and community engagement, emphasizing sustainability and interdisciplinary creativity.
