About
Anupam Pandey is an Assistant Professor in the Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Department at Syracuse University, affiliated with the BioInspired Institute. He holds a B.S. from Jadavpur University (2010), M.S. from Virginia Tech (2014), and Ph.D. from the University of Twente (2018).
His research focuses on mechanics of soft materials like hydrogels and elastomers, investigating their deformation under capillary, viscous, and elastic forces. Applications include flexible electronics and smart materials. Recent work explores biomechanics of diving impacts and optimal fluid-pumping strategies using soft surfaces.
- Awards: 2024 Sigma Gamma Tau Faculty Award, 2021 Cornell Active Learning Fellowship
- Lab: Squishy & Flowy Matter Lab ( Syracuse University)
- Key Themes: Elastocapillarity, fluid-structure interaction, biomimetic engineering
Advising includes Ph.D. students Amit Pandey and Shima Mahmoudirad, with recent lab additions like Postdoc Dr. Brian Wu. Research has been widely covered in media like Nature Communications, Science Advances, and Popular Science.
